St Mary's Catholic School strives to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all children. We follow the guidelines as set out by the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) and have a wide range of policies and procedures in place in order to achieve these aims.

Safeguarding children incorporates a number of areas including:

  • safety within school, including employment of staff
  • safety at home
  • appropriate use of technology, including the internet
  • enjoyment of the outdoors and educational visits
  • children identifying risk and risk management
  • children knowing how to stay safe from abuse

Parents play a vital role in ensuring the safety and welfare of their child. The Head Teacher and staff aim to work in partnership with parents where concerns arise and can consult with external agencies should this be required.

St  Mary's is an Operation Encompass school.

Operation Encompass is supporting children through key adults. It is the early reporting to schools, before 9am on a school day, that a child or young person has been involved in, or exposed to, a domestic abuse incident the previous evening. The information is given in strict confidence to the school’s Key Adult, to enable support to be given, dependent on the needs and wishes of the child.

St Mary's  has 2 Key Adults: Mrs D Bolton and Mrs S Luff
